New video from those boys from Ann Arbor. This is one of my favorite songs from the Michigan trio, and their upcoming album, Tomorrow Already drops Sept 30th, and should be mad refreshing with a very original sound. Don’t sleep.
You might remember this song from their live performance they did for HHO a few months back.

Now this right here is that pure, uncut dope. This is a recording of Jay Dee appearing on Giles Peterson’s BBC Radio 1 show in February of 2001. Basically, they’re just playing DIlla tracks as he talks about each one and what he was aiming for with the production, as well as little tidbits and stories from behind the music. This is a must listen for any Dilla fan. Dilla, who was one of the most passionate musicians of our era, speaks from the heart about working with some of his favorite artists like the Pharcyde, Common, Slum Village, The Ummah, Q-Tip, Janet Jackson, Erykah Badu, and so much more.
Running time is 31:45, but every second is like an orgasm for your eardrums.
Do yourself a favor and LISTEN HERE…because there’s no such thing as too much Dilla in your life.

New music from Black Dante. No, really.

Word on the streets internet, is that this is off his upcoming album, The Ecstatic, which according to wikipedia has no known release date. Sorry, I don’t make up the news, I just report it.

The classic album Illmatic is being turned into a book. Hip Hop Scholar, Author and Activist, Dr. Michael Eric Dyson is currently writing a book about Nas’s debut album. Every Song on Illmatic will be analyzed, interpretted and re-articulated in an intellecual sense. See, and who says books aren’t gangster?
Released in 1994, the album received the once coveted 5 Mics from The Source, and is widely regarded as one of, if not the greatest, Hip-Hop album of all time. The book, Titled Born To Use Mics: Reading Nas’s Illmatic is scheduled to hit books shelves in January 2009. Reading is fundamental, cop you one.
Hip Hop Official presents a 3-Part spotlight on LL Cool J. For those of you not is the know, LL has a new album (#13) dropping next Tuesday, Sept 9th, titled Exit 13. He is the definition of longevity, over 25 years in the game - on the SAME record label, Def Jam (He was the first act on the legendary label).
For Part 1 of the series, our NY correspondent Shani Kulture hit the streets outside of HOT 97 to talk to the people (and radio personalities) about the living legend. He proved that not just the ladies love Cool James.
As a bonus, I included a track off LL’s new album. The beat is smooth; he looped one of my favorite Gwen McCrae songs, “90% of Me Is You.”

Buff 1 performed last week at his album release party at the Little Temple in Los Angeles, CA. (His album There Can Only Be 1 is in stores now). He threw down a dope set, and the highlight was definitely his single “Beat the Speakers Up”. Hip Hop Official was there to catch all the speaker abuse.
If you are unfamiliar with Buff 1, go here and you might learn something.

For those of you unfamilar with Illa J, he is the late great J Dilla’s little brother. He might recognize him as the lead from Dilla’s video “Won’t Do.” Well, considering his bloodline, the kid is a talented musician. He’s releasing an LP titled, Yancy Boys, and this is the first offering produced by J Dilla. Little J has a cool little flow to him, and the same smooth and soul vibe his brother provided. The song is a feel good joint, celebrating life.
“One of the things I learned from my brother is that you don’t get that much time, so make the most of it. That’s why I’ve decided to dedicate my life to doing what I love: music.” - Illa J
